Senior Discount Shows Average Monthly American Water Bill Cost

Originally, the MUA’s Senior discount was unknown by Council President Orlando Mercado, who stated this at a Council meeting. If you were to go to the township website, the form did not come up under searches, so the GTObserver made it readily available on their website. The discount was 25% for those that qualify.

While we are on the subject, PLEASE talk to seniors and help them get enrolled in this program. They must be currently enrolled in order to get the discount, from everything we can see. The link to the application can be found by clicking HERE

After learning about the Senior Discount, NJ American Water claimed they would honor any seniors enrolled in the program. Literature started stating this.

The wording on more recent literature started using different wording. It states it will be adding bill pay assistance for those that qualify using H2O Program.

If you were to look up the Bill Pay Assistance on their own website, some interesting facts can be seen about the program called the H2O Help to others Program. It is important to note that these rates and discounts are for PA and are not specific to NJ or Gloucester Township.

The qualifying Tiers has to do with the number of people in household and the monthly income. It is as follows:

The next part shows the discounts and puts dollar values on these percentages. Basic algebra taught us how to determine the monthly rate based on the values provided. People have been speculating on what the monthly rates “might” be. This is directly from American Water’s own website.

If you look at the Tier 3 discount, which says a 55% discount saves you $60.25 PER MONTH on wastewater services, you can figure out the original monthly bill. First, subtract 55% from 100%, which gives you 45%. Convert that to a decimal by moving the decimal two places left, making it 0.45. Then, divide $60.25 by 0.45, and you’ll get the original monthly bill of $133.89.

Calling the number in the H2O program image lead to finding out this program is not currently offered in NJ. Again, as previously stated, these rates are for PA/ We do not know if it will be made available upon the GT referendum passing. We can only assume this as it is stating it will use this program on their materials for their campaign. No rates can be found on their website related to this program for NJ. The reality is, we have no idea what the senior discount will be or what it will be based on if this passes.
