Ever wonder where the 'Team Mayer' political machine gets its money?

 It’s mostly businesses that Gloucester Township pays for services. That’s where the term ‘pay-to-play’ comes from: you give money to candidates through Political Action Committees (PACs), and they award you business in return. Sometimes they’ll even charge the township a bit more to cover the donation that comes later. (This is basically using taxpayer money to fund their campaigns.)

None of this information is a secret. It’s actually fairly easy to find through the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission (NJ ELEC) search page—it just takes hours to piece together the full picture.

What about the people behind the PACs themselves?

These are generally people who work behind the scenes, largely out of public view. They design and mail out bold flyers to discredit community members while staying anonymous. We’ve called out some of these names before but haven’t laid it all out on one page until now.

Citizens For Government Reform

Citizens For Government Reform” is a Continuing Political Committee (CPC) established in November 2010 to support political activities in Gloucester Township, New Jersey, closely aligned with Mayor David Mayer’s Democratic leadership, often referred to as “Team Mayer.” Founded by Sam Siler, a former Democratic councilman, as chairperson, and Marianne Coyle, a school board member, as treasurer, the PAC has been a key player in channeling funds to bolster Mayer’s allies in local elections. Its leadership evolved over time: Cynthia Carlamere, wife of township solicitor David Carlamere, took over as chair in 2011, while Laura Power replaced Coyle as treasurer in 2013 after a conflict-of-interest complaint. By 2017, Donna Jones is listed as the current treasurer, per recent filings with the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission (ELEC).

This Political Action Committee (PAC) is in getting Democratic school board nominees elected to the Gloucester Township Board of Education.   It appears to be over $18,000 in debt for previous years marketing campaigns.  It has also been associated with “Team Mayer” events in town.
