Gloucester Township Council Meeting – April 28, 2025

  • Closed Session:
    • Council entered a closed session to discuss an ongoing legal matter. There was no indication of what the session was about.
  • Public Comments (Agenda Items):
    • There were no speakers during Public Comment for agenda items. 
  • Ordinances:
    • Ordinance 0-25-11 (Block party applications): This outlines the process for block party applications, including requirements for permits, associated fees, and resident petitions.  CLIP 1 – Passed
    • Ordinance 0-25-12 (Parking prohibitions): This ordinance amends Chapter 81, Section 14 of the township code, specifically addressing parking prohibitions on Village Green Lane and Farmfield Lane. – Passed
    • Ordinance 0-25-13 (Stop intersections): This ordinance amends Chapter 81, Section 22, adding stop signs at the intersections of Somerdale Road West and Eaten Place, as well as Sherbrook Boulevard.  – Passed
    • Ordinance 0-25-14 (One-way streets): This ordinance amends Chapter 81, Section 20, designating Summerdale Road Westerly as a one-way street. – Passed
    • Ordinance 0-25-15 (Pawn brokers and secondhand goods): [41:04] This ordinance rescinds and replaces a previous ordinance concerning pawn brokers and dealers of secondhand goods, updating the relevant regulations and fees. Chief Harkins gives a summary CLIP 2
  • Consent Agenda:
    • Resolution 141, regarding the application of First Watch for a place transfer of retail consumption, was initially listed on the consent agenda but was removed prior to the meeting.

  • Public Comments (General Public Comment):
    • Denise Coyne – within the township.

      • CLIP 5 They created new departments and jobs without council approval. 
    • Ira Eckstein  CLIP 6 Ira asks about their over budgeting that lead to extra money.
    • Brian Burns – Planning:
      • Is anyone looking at these applications on council because they don’t match up.  CLIP 7
      • Why are you allowing them to build on a Heritage site?  CLIP 8

    • Smithman – Says she got roughed up by our police.

    • Off-leash dogs: A resident expressed concerns about the issue of off-leash dogs within the township. CLIP 13
      • She initially approached the county and they told her it was a township duty to write fines.
